| Brief Biography: Charles R. Roderick was born July 4, 1860 in Henry County, Iowa. When he was 19 years old he came to St. Joseph, MO to work on the Kansas City branch of the Burlington being a brakeman. He was made a fireman and then promoted to engineer. During the engineer's strike in 1888 he went out with the rest of the men and was appointed a patrolman on the police force. He served as a patrolman until June 1, 1909 when he became sergeant. Three months later he was made captain to succeed William P. Gibson.
He married his wife Miss Mamie Widaman April 8, 1886. She died August 14, 1888 in St. Joseph, MO. He married Miss Minnie Colvelle May 10, 1905.
He became ill in November from eating oysters and had ptomaine poisoning. It got progressively worse until it became acute neprhitis.
He is survived by his wife Mamie and five children, his mother, two sisters and a brother.
