Brief Biography: excerpt from St. Joseph News-Press Dec 4, 1912
Mrs. Russell was born at Westfield, Ohio, and she was taken by her parents soon afterward to Ashley, Ohio. She came to St. Joseph forty-seven years ago with her first husband, who died in 1865. They had three children: Mrs. Griffin, A.P. Clayton & Emma Clayton, now dead.
In 1869 she became the wife of Colonel Russell. There were no children from this marriage, but she raised his children from his first marriage: Harry and Patee Russell.
She united with the First Baptist Church soon after she came to St. Joseph and became a charter member of the Patee Park Baptist Church when it was organized thirty-one years ago. She was a prominent worker in that congregation until her health began to decline.
In addition to the tow children named, Mrs. Russell is survived by a sister, Mrs. Althea Early of Deadwood, S.D. Colonel Russell her last husband, died in 1874, and she has been living with her daughter for the last six years. Arrangements for the funeral have been completed. Burial will be in Mount Mora Cemetery. |
