Brief Biography: St. Joseph News-Press 1/13/1945 Mrs. Benjamin Sprague Story died shortly after midnight last night at the home of her mother, Mrs. Elliott Marshall, 319 North Twentieth street, where she had been an invalid for several years. She was 51 years old. Prominent in St. Joseph society before her illness, she was a woman of unusual charm and brilliance. She cam eof a line of distinguished ancestors. Her great-great-grandfather, Robert Owen, born in England, was a man of great wealth and instituted social reforms in factories there. He founded communities built on socialistic principles, in England, and also at New Harmony, Ind. The czar of Russia visited his English home, as well as other notables. His son, Robert Dale Owen, was a congressman and later United States ambassador to Naples. Grandfather Built Church Mrs. Story's grandfather, Dr. James Runcie, built Christ Church and was for 18 years rector of the parish. Her grandmother, granddaughter of Robert Owen, was Constance Fauntleroy Runcie, author and composer, who founded the Runcie Club here. Making her debut in the fall of 1913 at a large ball given at Prinz's Dancing Adademy, Mrs. Story, the former Jean Dale Marshall was married in 1916 to John Henry Savage of Cleveland, Ohio, in Christ Church. One child was born to this union, Constance, who is now a teacher at the Summit School, St. Paul. Mr. Savage died in 1918. Five years later, Mrs. Savage was married to Benjamin S. Story of Cleveland, who lived only a few years. Their son B.S. Story Jr. is now a private first class at Fort Knox, Ky. Shortly after Mr. Story's death his widow came to St.Joseph with her children to reside. Mrs. story first attended the private school conducted by Mrs. Runcie and daughter the late Miss Ellinor Runcie, and after this school, which was at 2618 Jule street, in the large building now occupied by Georgian Terrace Apartments. Afterwards she attended finishing schools at Summit, N.J., and at Rye, N.Y. A Beautiful Girl It was a coincidence that of the six young girls who made their debuts in the winter of 1913-14, three of them were married during the same week, in early June, 1916. the tree were Mrs. Story; Mrs. H.R. Krug, the former Miss Marian Dolman, and Mrs. George Richmond, the former Miss Louise Kemper, They were all lifelong friends. Mrs. Story was a very beautiful girl and young matron. she was an animated conversationalist, a voracious reader and had an unusual mind, coupled with a retentive memory and a keen sense of humor. Because of her grandfather's prominence in Christ Church, the members of the vestry will act as pallbearers at her funeral, which will be at the church. She is survived by her children her mother and her brother, Elliot Marshall Jr. who is secretary to Congressman William C. Cole at Washington.
