Mrs. Laura May Story, active clubwoman in St. Joseph many years, and widow of Dr. John Clark Story, died this morning at her home, 1102 Krug Park Place.
Mrs. Story was born in St. Joseph, the daughter of the late Eugene Clay and Ada Hawley Zimmerman, pioneer residents of St. Joseph. She was a sister of the late Eugene H. Zimmerman, former Vice-president of Tootle-Lacy Bank.
One of six women in St. Joseph to be mentioned in the feminine Who's Who "American Women," Mrs. Story was cited for her activities in club work. She was a charter member of the Art League which was founded by 12 women in her home. In its second year she became president of the league and served in that office 26 years. Mrs. Story was also president of the Little Theater, originally organized as a branch of the Art League.
The first meeting of the Garden Club was held in her home and Mrs. Story one of the eight organizers, became the charter president of the group. This club recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, with Mrs. Story given the honor of cutting the birthday cake at the luncheon meeting.
Treasurer of the St. Joseph Federation of Women's Clubs for many years, Mrs. Story was also active in the Y.W.C.A., Runcie Club, Fortnightly Club and Civic Music Association. She was an accomplished pianist during her younger years. Mrs. Story was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
The only survivors are her cousins, Mrs. Fred Ducret, Kansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Otto Wiere (Wiese on death certificate), E.C. Dinsmore, and F.E. Dinsmore, all of Omaha.
Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Heaton-Bowman chapel. Dr. Robert L. McLeod will officiate and burial will be in Mount Mora Cemetery.
