25 June 1886 Col. J.W. Strong of the St. Joseph, Mo. Herald, was killed 18 June 1886 by Dr. S.A. Richmond of that city. He shot Strong in the Herald office and after the shooting, Dr. Richmond went to the sidewalk and fired a shot at his head, but his wound was a slight one. Col. Strong died a few minutes after he was shot; and he was buried 28 June 1886. Dr. Richmond is regarded as a insane man.
His daughter Janet Strong married Lucian Eastin and he became the editor of the newspaper. |
