Katherine Ryan (Cooc) Vineyard died July 13, 2010 at her home.
She was born August 17, 1932 to Dr. J. Harold and Virginia (Curtin) Ryan in St. Joseph, where she lived her entire life.
She attended Central High School and graduated from Villa Duchesne School in St. Louis, Mo in 1949. She went to Briarcliff College, Briarcliff Manor, NY and later attended the University of Missouri where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She graduated in 1953.
On April 15, 1955 she married Benjamin Robert Vineyard, her husband of 55 years. Together they had four children, Ginny, Ben, Gale and Kitty.
She was a member of the Junior League of St. Joseph, volunteered as a cook for the Albrecht-Kemper Museum and was an active lifelong Democrat.
Survivors include her husband, Ben, of the home; four children, Ginny Vineyard (Morrie Pitluck), Kansas City, MO, Ben Vineyard (Kay Evans), Columbia, MO, Gale Vineyard, Evanston, IL, and Kitty Vineyard, Evanston, IL; three grandsons, Benjamin Vineyard Scott, Gregory Vineyard Scott and John Vineyard Martin; her sister and brother-in-law, Gigi and Jock Streidl, Seattle, WA, and their children, Patrick and John; her brother-in-law, Barkley Vineyard (Barbara), Ft. Myers, FL and their daughters, Liz Klein, Nancy Vineyard and Jean Myers; niece, Missy Vineyard , Amherst, MA; and nephew, John Vineyard, Ithaca, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Dr. George Vineyard; and her dear friend, Mary Lynn Brown.
Cooc was known for her beautiful smile, her charm, and her remarkable talent for making everyone around her feel comfortable and welcome. She was a charming, radiant soul.
Her friends will remember her flawless memory, her style, her stories, her cooking, her devotion to her husband and children and her marvelous sense of humor.
Benny, Greg and Johnny will remember Mimi’s laugh, sparkle and enthusiastic reminders about grammar and manners.
Her husband and children will never forget the lovely life she made for them.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
A Memorial Gathering will be held 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Saturday, July 24th, 2010 at the St. Joseph Country Club |
