| Brief Biography: Harold W. Akers, 80, of St. Joseph, MO, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.
Harold was born February 10, 1937 in Avalon, MO to the late Roger and Loraine (Pennington) Akers. He graduated in 1955 from the Chillicothe Missouri High School.
On August 12, 1956 Harold married Betty Jean Hedges in Bethany, MO. Betty's grandfather, Reverend O.D. Hedges, performed the ceremony.
In 1956, Harold joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Pictor.
Harold was a member of the Wyatt Park Christian Church and served as a Deacon, Elder, Lay Minister. Harold was a Boy Scout Leader and in Mic-O-Say where he received his Indian name of Life Giver. Harold was a member of the Sunrise Optimist. Harold was an insurance broker. Harold loved his family, fishing, camping and hunting.
Mr. Akers is survived by his wife, Betty of the home, son Gregory Akers (Linda); daughter, Jean Ann Williams (Jeff), grandson, Alexander Williams (Morgan) and great-granddaughter, Emilee Rose Williams, who was born September 6, 2017, sister, Barbara Conger (Ronald), four nephews and a niece; numerous great nephews and nieces.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Joann Johnson.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at the Wyatt Park Christian Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Mt. Mora Cemetery.
