Brief Biography: June 19, 1911
Mr. Hartwig was the second son of the late Maj. Henry R. W. Hartwig. He was born January 1, 1864, at the old Hartwig homestead, one of the pioneer mansions of the city, yet standing on Dewey avenue. On April 26, 1891, he was married to Miss Edith Hax, daughter of the late Louis Hax, the pioneer furniture manufacturer of St. Joseph. To them a son, Henry, now eighteen years old was born.
Soon after graduating from the St. Joseph high school, or about 1885, Mr. Hartwig entered the bank of Schuster, Hax & Co., then loacated at Third and Felix streets, as a clerk. Later the bank was nationalized and then was consolidated with the Saxton National Bank, under the nam of the First National Bank of Buchanan County. In 1894 Mr. Hartwig was made assistant cashier of the First National Bank. He was elected cashier in 1904 and served in that capacity until the first of the present year...
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and was a vestryman.
He was a member of Charity Lodge No. 331, A.F. & A.M., St. Joseph Chapter No. 14, royal Arch Masons, Hugh de Payens Commandery No. 51, Knights Templar, and was a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Moila Temple of the Shrine.
The funeral service will be conducted at the residence at 10 o'clock Wednesday moring. The Rev. Edward Henry Eckel rector of Christ Church officiating. Interment will be in Mount Mora cemetery and will be private. |
