Sheridan A. Logan 1900 - 2003

Mr. Sheridan Ashton Logan, 102, St. Joseph, Mo. died of complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure at home.

He attended Noyes and Webster Schools and was a graduate of Central High School in 1918. He attended Phillips Academy at Andover, Mass. in 1919 and graduated from Harvard University in 1923. After graduation, he joined the First National Bank of New York, where he worked for 43 years. He became the Executive Secretary for the George F. Baker Trust, whose scholarship service sent thousands of young men to college. He authored two books. One book was a history of the First National Bank of New York entitled, George F. Baker and His Bank, 1840-1855. The other book was a history of St. Joseph entitled Old St. Jo Gateway to the West, 1799-1932. He was born Dec. 9, 1900 in St. Joseph, Mo., and had resided in New York City for 43 years until returning to St. Joseph in 1966 to reside in the family home. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sublette Logan and Caroline Carrie(Ashton) Sheridan Logan; three brothers, John Sublette Logan III in 1917, Col. John Byrne Logan (founder of the Missouri Air National Guard at Rosecrans) in 1985, and Thomas Ashton Logan in 1991; two sisters, Mary Louise Logan in 1978, Emma Caroline Logan in 1909; cousins, John Roundy and Collis Roundy, Gilbert Tootle, William Enright, Virginia Fairleigh, John Logan and Charles Logan. Mr. Logan was a member of First Presbyterian Church; St. Joseph Historical Society; Pony Express Historical Association; Riverfront Park Committee; National Trials Committee; Missouri State Historical Society, of which he was a board member and former Vice-President; and the Harvard Clubs of New York City and Boston, Mass. Survivors: his niece, Lisa Caroline Logan Armbruster; great- niece Jadis Jean Armbruster; great- nephew, Thane Ethan Armbruster; cousins, Sheridan A. Loyd, Nicole Ashton Carstensen Martin, Mary Belle Sheridan, Jack Tootle and Milton Tootle; best friend and college roommate at Harvard University, class of 1923, Albert Gordon (of New York City). Service: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, First Presbyterian Church. Interment: Mount Mora Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. The family suggests memorial gifts to a St. Joseph charity. Mr. Logan will be removed from Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is grateful for the care and concern by Sheridans many friends during his long and memorable life.
