Jennie T. Sollars, 89, St. Joseph died Thursday, Aug. 1, 1996, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Sollars worked in the notions department of the former Townsend and Wall department store for 10 years, and also taught knitting classes there, retiring in 1971. She and her late husband Clarence, had worked with youth at Teen Town in St. Joseph and were known as "Mom and Pop Sollars".
Born in St. Joseph on Sept. 19, 1906, she was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. She attended the former Platt Business College.
Mrs. Sollars was a member of the Woodson Chapel Christian Church, where she had taught Sunday school, was a Sunday school superintendent, and was active in Ladies Aid, of which she was a past president.
On may 2, 1925, she married Clarence E. Sollars, in St. Joseph. He died in 1957.
Surviving: three sons, Clarence E., Savannah, Mo., and Charles F. and Marvin A. both of St. Joseph; 10 grandhcildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial : 11 a.m. today, Mount Mora Cemetery. Visitation: after 9 a.m. today at the Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home. |
