Obituary of Milton TOOTLE.
St. Joseph, Mo., January 5.--The last honors were accorded to Milton TOOTLE to-day. The request of the Mayor that business houses should be closed was generally observed. The banks, the county and city offices, were closed. All the flags were at half-mast and many of the public buildings were decorated. Private services were held at 2:30 o'clock at the family mansion in obedience to the wishes of Mrs. TOOTLE, who is too ill to leave her house. Public funeral services were held at 3 o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church. The crowd was the greatest ever seen at any funeral in this city. An immense procession formed and followed the hearse to Mount Mors Cemetery. The remains were placed in the public vault, to await the erection of a family vault. It is learned from a most reliable source that a will exists and is in the dead millionaire's strong box, in the vault at Tootle, Hosea & Co.'s. The key to this box is in the hands of Mr. TOOTLE's oldest son, a lad 13 years of age. The box will be opened to-morrow. It is thought that beyond doubt Dr. John S. LOGAN will be the administrator. |
