Brief Biography: T Catherine Barrow Kessberger Catherine Barrow Kessberger Obituary for Catherine Barrow Kessberger Catherine Barrow Kessberger 1923-2012 Catherine Barrow Kessberger died peacefully on June 12th 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her family and those who loved her, not least of all her dog, Lucy. She was born on the Ides of March in 1923 to John Doyle and Catherine Moss Barrow. She attended Central High School and went to St. Joseph Junior College for 1 year before transferring to Duke University in North Carolina from which she was graduated in 1945 with a degree in English Literature. She later joined friends in NYC and worked for The Guarantee Title Bank, afterwards moving to Chicago and working for The AmericanExpress Co. She returned to St. Joseph in 1948 and worked for the Bell Telephone Company until her marriage to Jack Kessberger on August 20th 1949. Throughout her life she was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church, once serving as president of the The Women of Christ Church. She was also a member of the Junior League and The Runcie Club. She was proud, in the best sense, that her grandmother, Mary Leach Moss, had helpedto charter the club with Mrs. Runcie. She was a Cub Scout leader, volunteered for the March of Dimes, Meals on Wheels and Road to Recovery, helping to drive people to their various medicalappointments, retiring only after reaching the age of 80. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Barrow, by her husband Jack, and by her daughter, Mary Talbot White. She is survived by her son, Stephen, of Grand Junction, Co. and by her daughter, Margaret Sparrow of West Glover, Vt. Known to all her friends as Caffey, she raised three children and made a lovely home for her husband and family. No matter what her age, she was always like a young girl. She enjoyed being teased and seemed to love laughing at herself. Her smile was perfectly bewitching, genuine and radiant. It cheered onejust to see her coming. She could get immense gratification from simple things: The two rows of zinnias she planted every spring, sitting outside in the evening in a gentle rain, or making sand castles on the muddy banks of the Platte river. But she also knew when and how to dress and was a lady of natural civility and elegance. Loving all things English, she traveled in her late 60's and early 70's to Great Britain, three times, by herself, lugging an enormous suitcase. She always had a wonderful time. And there seemed always to be an English gentleman about to help her with that suitcase. She cherished her friends but could also enjoy just being alone with a good book or her own thoughts. She loved what we all love: Trees blowing in the wind, the moon, candles at Christmas, children on swings, fireworks, a thunderstorm, Winnie-the-Pooh, and dogs. She also loved St. Joseph, Missouri. Donations in her memory may be made to the Friends of the Animal Shelter. The family would like to take this moment to render a special tribute to the Corby Place Senior Living and Three Rivers Hospice, both of whom caused the last years of her life and her final moments to be filled with laughter, grace and light. Memorial Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday, Christ Episcopal Church, 7th and Francis Streets. Rev. Charles Caskey officiating. Services under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home Crematory.
