"James McCord, born in Randolph County, Va., Jan. 7. 1825. He was a son of William McCord, born in Albemarle, Va., in 1798. William married Sallie Moss Field, a daughter of John Field, а captain in the war of 1812. The McCords were of a colony of Scotch Irish, who came to America with Michael Woods, and brought with them their Presbyterian faith. James McCord is а man of superior judgment and unyielding energy, After examining Southern Missouri, he and his brother-in-law, Abram Nave, in 1845, entered into the mercantile business at St. Joseph, Mo. The house of Nave & McCord, under the management of the junior member, has become one of the largest and most reliable on the continent. In the interest of his business, Mr. McCord made three overland trips to California. The business has been incorporated under the name of Nave-McCord Mercantile Co., with James McCord II, Vice President." |
