Brief Biography: Information from History of Northwest Missouri, 1915, page 639- "James H. McCord was born at Savannah, Missouri, November 2, 1857, the son of James and Mary E. (Hallack) McCord. The family originally came from the North of Ireland, settling first in Albemarle County, Virginia. His father, James H., eventually migrated to Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri, who with his brother-in-law, Abram Nave, established a partnership in merchandising in 1846. The two partners also established a business at Oregon, Holt county, Mo., where James McCord remained until 1849. Mr. McCord, Sr., eventually went on to become a most successful businessman, involved with many enterprises throughout the Midwest. Young James was brought to St. Joseph, Mo., when but five weeks old. He was educated in the St. Joseph schools, and the Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1879. In September of that year, he entered the business of Nave-McCord Mercanile Company. He worked his way up in the business until he became President, when his father died Sept. 24, 1903. In addition to holding an official position in everyone of the outside houses, he was vice president of the Burnes National Bank of St. Joseph, President of the St. Joseph Library Board, President of the "Buchanan Society for the Relief and Prevention of Tuberculosis," and a member of the leading social and business clubs of the city. His residence was situated at No. 1823 Clay Street. In 1895, Mr. McCord was married to Miss Adele Calhoun Parker, daughter of Virgil and Susan (Calhoun) Parker, of Atchison, Kansas. Her grandfather was a close friend of Abraham Lincoln, being neighbors in Springfield, Ill., when they were young. At the time of this book's publication, Mr. and Mrs. McCord had one son, James Hamilton, Jr., who was born October 21, 1895."
